Pete Nettell (Director)
Pete’s recent work includes devising and directing the world premiere of I Love Youse All! as part of the 2007 New Mardi Gras Festival; the Sydney premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s Putting It Together; the Australian premieres of Handbag (Mark Ravenhill) and Out in the Open (Jonathan Harvey) for Focus Theatre; The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband for Monkey Mountain Productions; the Australian premiere of Necessary Targets at Darlinghurst Theatre and the CUB Playbox, Melbourne; and the Sondheim musicals Into the Woods and Assassins for New Theatre. He trained at the University of Kent (UK) and was a co-founder of London-based touring company Short Sharp Shock, and Sydney-based physical theatre company TILT, playing the Melbourne Fringe Festival, Belvoir Street and Stables theatres. Pete’s other directing work includes the world premiere of aloft! at the Parramatta Riverside Theatre; a nationally touring adaptation of Dorothy Porter’s award-winning verse novel, The Monkey’s Mask; plus productions at New Theatre of Only Heaven Knows, A Cheery Soul and The Diary of Anne Frank. Pete is also an experienced actor, most recently appearing in the Focus Theatre staged reading of Matthew Todd's hit comedy Blowing Whistles.
Wayne Harris (Set and Graphic Design)
Wayne has collaborated with directors Pete Nettell and Alice Livingstone on all Focus Theatre main shows (Out in the Open, Handbag, Putting It Together, Blowing Whistles and I Love Youse All!) and much of their work at New Theatre including Only Heaven Knows, A Cheery Soul, Once in a While the Odd Thing Happens, The Diary of Anne Frank, In Angel Gear, Mother Clap’s Molly House, Assassins and Into the Woods. He designed RL Productions’s highly successful Necessary Targets at Darlinghurst Theatre and the CUB Malthouse, Melbourne and The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband for Monkey Mountain Productions, and he was New Theatre’s resident poster designer for five years. Wayne is also one of Australia’s leading children’s book illustrators and he has won many awards for his striking and atmospheric book designs. His books include Going Home and The House of Narcissus (both with text by Margaret Wild), DragonQuest, Judy and the Volcano (shortlisted for the 1995 NSW Premier’s Literary Award), Gordon’s Got a Snookie and The Postman’s Dog.
